I’ve been eating at Dalat Oriental since I moved to Raleigh in 1996. Over the past 5 years or so, I almost exclusively order the grilled tofu sub. I can say that the quality has gone up and down over the years, but recently the subs have been great, and the tofu has always had a texture like nothing I’ve ever tasted. A friend of mine once returned his sub, swearing it was pork.
The tofu is flown in from either California or New York. The owners say they don’t make any money on it because of the cost that goes into acquiring the special tofu. Then they add cucumber, shredded carrots, cilantro, jalapeno, a fishy sauce and daikon on a French baguette. Amazing.
